Inspection & Base Grinding

Before starting the tuning process, we perform a comprehensive inspection of your skis or snowboard to identify any damage, such as worn edges, rust, sidewall issues, or malfunctioning bindings. This allows us to address any concerns early and ensure your equipment is properly cared for. For skis or snowboards with significant base damage, like deep gouges, we use base belt grinding to flatten the base. We then fill any needed scratchs or gouges with P-Tex and base grind again. This step restores the base to a smooth, even surface, preparing it for further tuning and helping maintain the performance and longevity of your equipment.

Edge Sharpening

A sharp edge is essential for achieving peak performance, offering excellent grip on hard surfaces and boosting your confidence during turns. With sharp edges, your skis or snowboard will stay securely underfoot as you carve. We use precision machines for all edge sharpening, ensuring consistent results and allowing us to customize the edge bevel to your specifications. By restoring your skis or snowboard to their factory-set edge angles, we guarantee you’ll experience optimal performance on the slopes.

Hand Waxing & Scraping

The final step in ski or snowboard tuning is applying the right wax for optimal glide and base care. Using the correct wax helps you maintain smooth, effortless gliding while keeping your bases hydrated and in top condition. At Altitude Tuning, we apply wax that ensures deep penetration into the base for maximum performance. After the wax cools, we carefully scrape and brush it out using nylon and horsehair brushes, removing any excess wax to prevent clogging and maintain optimal glide. This precise process enhances performance in a way that machine-based services can’t replicate.
